My journey to ceramics.

Ten years ago, before I ever worked with clay, I travelled to Korea and Japan for the first time. It turned out to be life-changing.

One of the highlights of the trip was sampling some incredible food; a new world of taste, smell and texture. But there was something else that added so much to the experience. Each meal was served on exquisitely made, and carefully chosen, plates and bowls. The food and serving-ware perfectly complemented and enhanced each other. The look and feel of a particular bowl, or plate, or teacup became a really critical part of the dining experience.

When I held a handmade, delicately crafted vessel, it had a powerful effect on me. Turning it over in my hands, I felt a profound connection with the makers and artists through their choice of form, balance and glaze. I was really moved by the variety, beauty and artistry of these simple objects. I returned home eager to understand more, hungry to experiment and express myself creatively through clay.

I am basically self-taught but have attended master classes with some fantastic potters in England and Japan. I’ve exhibited my work in fairs across the UK and have been commissioned by clients across the world, most recently Paris and Tokyo.

I work from my studio in West London, where I create bowls, vases, mugs and cups using thrown stoneware clay, fired in an electric kiln. I strive to make pots that are enjoyable to use in daily life and that are beautiful to look at.

I hope you enjoy looking through my work.
